Gilbert High school AZ-941 AFJROTC
Home of the Tigers
Throughout the year, AZ-941 holds different events. Each event is unique in its own way. Currently we have numerous events cadets- and possibly parents -can partake in. Every event is fun and helps bring the Corps together so going to these events is strongly encouraged.
Combat Dining In (CDI): Our first event of the year is where cadets go to the AFJROTC building after school and do various activities on the flooded soccer practice field. Each different flight is a team and they race against each other in things like the low crawl, wheelbarrow, and jump rope.
Softball Tournament: Cadets come to school on a Saturday and play throughout the afternoon in a softball tournament, and attendance is free. There is a parents team in the softball tournament as well. In the classroom, there is a plaque showing the winners of each year: parents or students.
Dining Out 2021-2022
Dining Out: This event is AFJROTC's formal dinner. After they dine, cadets can dance and socialize with the rest of the Corps. Parents may also participate in this event and are welcome to come eat and dance with the cadets, making it a fun event for both cadets and their parents to socialize with each other.
Leadership Reaction Course (LRC): Takes place during the cadet's class hour. Cadets will go on a mission (run through an obstacle course) to save a downed pilot, using code and stealth to reach the pilot. The course is designed to simulate a high stress environment and forces cadets to listen to their commanders to finish successfully.
Starlite 2019-2020
Operation Starlite: Cadets will stay at the school overnight and simulate what active duty members would do in an attack, attendance is free. Cadets utilize walkie-talkies and fake weapons to defend their base (the school) from attackers (senior cadets) throwing water balloons at them. Parents may volunteer to deliver food for the event but are not allowed to join in the event.
Sports Day: Cadets participate in various activities and games against other flights from first to seventh hour. The point is to form stronger bonds within the flight and corps as well as promote (non-mandatory) fun within the corps.
Military Ball (Mil Ball): AFJROTCs prom, there will be a formal dinner, and then dancing afterwards. Mil Ball is one of the last events of the year and is much more relaxed then Dining out. There is an admission fee, and only cadets or their partner can attend.
Lock-In: The last event of the year is a night of fun and games. The seniors share advice and their best moments in the corps before graduation, attendance is free.
